Pine Wood Elementary held their 42nd Annual Fun Run in DeRidder on Friday, October 20th. The run was held during school hours and the students who were not participating were able to cheer their classmates on along the course. The students who participated received a popsicle, T-Shirt, and a participation certificate to celebrate their achievement.
Founded by Pine Wood Elementary Coach Gene Maddox, the Fun Run was inspired by several children’s races held in conjunction with marathons across the country. It is a longstanding tradition at Pine Wood with all of the teachers and students.
The event has received much support over the years from the community, Beauregard Parish School Board sponsored this year's race and supplied t-shirts for all of the faculty and staff.
The top three female and male finishers in each grade received trophies for their performances.
In the 4th grade girls’ division: E Bou was first with a time of 7:33. C Seb was second with a time of 8:00 and third was K Cor with a time of 8:02!
The top three fourth grade boys: C Law with a time of 7:05! E Gal was able to finish in second place with a time of 7:20, followed by K Joh with a third place time of 7:21.
Our 5th grade girl winners were: First, H Joh with a time of 6:51! Second place was M McM with a time of 7:24 and third was A Hag with a time of 8:15.
Our 5th grade boys all raced the PWE mile under 7:00 minutes. First place was B Ber who ran the PWE mile in 6:11. Second and third place were close and only had a second between them. C Pea placed second with a 6:38 and W Wis ran and placed 3rd with a time of 6:39!
Congratulations to all our students who completed the Fun Run! This event was a huge success thanks to all of our help from the teachers, faculty, students, and local police who were able to secure us a safe running course! We are already looking forward to next year's 43rd Annual Pine Wood Fun Run!
